About the role

Build and maintain Java and Spring Boot services for fintech payment products. You must have practical experience integrating both Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS) and Visa Cybersource in a professional fintech or payments environment.

Work alongside senior engineers to deliver reliable checkout, transaction processing, refunds, and reconciliation features. Investigate payment failures and protect the correctness and security of financial data.

What you'll do

  • Implement payment endpoints and MPGS and Visa Cybersource integration features with Java and Spring Boot
  • Maintain authorisation, capture, void, refund, tokenisation, and 3-D Secure flows under senior technical guidance
  • Handle gateway notifications, payment statuses, idempotency keys, and retries without creating duplicate transactions
  • Write SQL queries and persistence code for transaction records and settlement reconciliation
  • Add unit and integration tests for approvals, declines, timeouts, and gateway failures
  • Investigate payment defects using sanitised logs and follow PCI DSS-aware secure development practices

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years of professional Java development experience, including work on fintech or payment-processing systems
  • Hands-on integration experience with both Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS) and Visa Cybersource
  • Practical experience with Spring Boot and relational databases
  • Understanding of card authorisation, capture, refunds, tokenisation, 3-D Secure, and reconciliation
  • Practical understanding of idempotency, HTTP APIs, payment error handling, and safe retries
  • Awareness of PCI DSS and secure handling of payment credentials and sensitive data
  • Comfort with Git and automated testing
  • Clear written communication and a collaborative approach

Nice to have

  • Experience with payment gateway sandbox testing and go-live checks
  • Familiarity with financial ledgers, message queues, Docker, and CI/CD
